This piece is a photo montage made as a part of a series that explores Barthes’ notion of stadium & punctum through non-traditional self-portraits. Photography can take a space or moment and cut it off from its context or continuity, thus distorting it to a degree. Through digital imaging techniques, I created compositions that play on this distortion of time, place, & persona. For this piece, I scanned in an old family photo and overlayed it with photos I took. The main photo being of my mother when she was around my age; by overlaying the image from past and present, my mother’s and I’s selves overlap & become reflections of each other.
